Many artists, intellectuals and ordinary people died during the Khmer rouge's reign of terror from April 17th, 1975 to January 7th, 1979. The Khmers rouge didn't like people who were educated, even if they were only able to read.
Top row:
my father, who was a teacher, and my brothers, who were students. My eldest brother (in the middle) studied law. They died of starvation and disease in slave labour camps.
Bottom row:
my uncles; one was an engineer, the other a doctor and the one on the far right, a teacher. Two of my uncles were probably killed by the Khmer rouge, another (in the middle) died of disease.
I don't have the photo of my other uncle. He and his family disappeared during the reign of terror.
